Kaduna State Govt. Plans to Give Out 5,000 Tablets to Students in Public Secondary School.

The Kaduna State Government under the Smart Education Initiative plans to distribute 5,000 tablets to students to enhance teaching and learning in public secondary schools. Of course, the tablets will be loaded with all ‘the needed applications’, and will be distributed to SSI students in public secondary schools across the state.

Now, when you read the title and the ones on popular news platforms like the Nation, the first thing that would probably come to mind is that the Kaduna Government likely purchased these tablets. However, it was reported earlier (2 months back) that ExxonMobile donated 5000 tablets to the Kaduna Government.

So, this could mean that the Government plans to distribute the said tablets to the students of the state, which is also a laudable move in itself (They could have been used for other things).

One of the things that got me impressed is the fact that the Governor intends to flag off the pilot scheme with students in Queen Amina College, a boarding school for girls. He is doing this to encourage young females and foster the confidence that the education of girls is a priority for the government.
Yes, that deserves an applause.
Another thing is this: The Government will set aside N100 million research grant open for any scientist from any institution, who wishes to carry out research, either on health, environment, conflict resolution or other issues confronting the state.
“We are calling on scientists and researchers to use the opportunity and access the grant.
“All they need to do is to send a proposal and if we are convinced it would solve a pressing problem in the state, we will give such a person go ahead,’’ the commissioner said.
